ENCOUNTERING THE WORLD IN KOREA: MALAYSIA AND SWITZERLAND

On the Saturday morning of November 21, the children of Jinwi Elementary School in Pyeongtaek gathered for a special event— Encountering the World in Korea— had come to their school. William Wong Xiu Shun, a volunteer from Malaysia, taught the lower grades how to draw traditional Malaysian clothing and color key chains. Meanwhile, Swiss volunteer Maurin Vögeli taught the older students how to craft traditional music boxes, a slightly more challenging task. Later in the day, the two groups joined each other to enjoy fondue, a classic Swiss delicacy. The kids loved the flavors of the fondue. In the end, Vögeli was sad to part with her beloved students, saying, “This experience has left a very favorable impression of Korea on me, and I want to continue volunteering even after I go back to Switzerland.” It was a meaningful event, as it allowed the kids to learn about Malaysia and Switzerland while endowing the volunteers with long-to-be-remembered memories.
