Three Photographers: In the Spirit of George Rose

In 1904, George Rose, an Australian photographer, visited Korea and captured vivid scenes of the late Joseon era, producing works that are highly praised to this day. To commemorate the photography of George Rose, photographers Koo Bohnchang (Korea) and William Yang (Australia) visited each other’s country to capture present-day images of Korea and Australia, some 110 years after Rose set foot on the Korean Peninsula.
The images captured by the two photographers portray a specific region’s geographical characteristics and historic landscape. This exhibition is a chance to compare the Korea and Australia of Rose’s time with our contemporary times through a collection of images that provides a glimpse of the past, present, and future of Korea and Australia.
