Scholarly Exchange between Korea and Global
Academics

The KF hosted the visit of 27 prominent scholars from 23 countries to Korea on April 27-May 2. During this time, Professor Tilman Mayer of the University of Bonn, a specialist in Germany’s reunification process, met with President Choi Jinwook of the Korea Institute for National Unification to discuss Germany’s reunification experiences and their implications for Korea’s unification policies. Two Dutch scholars with a keen interest in Korea’s modern and contemporary history and its human rights issues visited the House of Sharing, a home for surviving victims of the Japanese military’s sexual slavery, and the War Memorial of Korea, so that they could include these experiences into their materials for middle school textbooks. Siphamandla Zondi, Director of the Institute for Global Dialogue, paid a visit to the Korea International Cooperation Agency for a better understanding of Korea’s development cooperation and to share his knowledge of economic development in the African region. At the conclusion of their stay, the scholars expressed their gratitude for the KF invitation program along with their hopes to actively engage in scholarly exchange with Korea’s academic community.
