MEETING the WORLD in KOREA India and Vietnam

Can it be possible to visit India and Vietnam in less than one day? This might be possible, to some extent, through the KF Multicultural Program, known as “Meeting the World in Korea,” which is administered by the KFVN Event Planning Team. On the third Saturday of January, the program team visited Eungwang Children’s Center in Seoul together with “travel guides” Akash Dilipkumar Dhandhakia of India and Kieu Thi Thu Trang of Vietnam. Fittingly, a Hindu holiday for giving thanks, known as Makar Sankranti, was being celebrated in India around the time of this visit. Moreover, an international kite festival was underway there as well. Thus, young Korean children learned how to make traditional Indian kites from Akash while burning with an eagerness to attend a kite festival in the future. In addition, Thu Trang showed everyone how to make a traditional Vietnamese outfit called Áo dài. Its brilliant yet elegant colors and refined style seemed to captivate us with the charms of Vietnamese culture. And in fact, Vietnamese food is a beloved cuisine in Korea nowadays. Therefore, the children were already familiar with the Vietnamese wraps they were served, providing a filling and satisfying end to the first session of “Meeting the World in Korea” 2015.
