Craftsmen Designers Makers: Exhibition
Review

On July 15, I attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition to commemorate the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Italy. I had really been looking forward to seeing the stylish dresses, shoes, handbags, and other items on display. This exhibition was an opportunity to learn about the intersection of tradition and modern technology in Italy through the relationships between designers, craftsmen, and brands. The beauty and charm of Korean culture were enhanced by the performances of a traditional gugak ensemble, led by artist-director Kim Seung-ho, and the dance troupe Pyeongin. I hope to remember the words of Massimo Osti from the exhibition signage— a message that fashion culture will continue to be formed from the fusion of traditional cultural heritages and contemporary technology—“In fact, I don’t deal in clothing. I deal in communication, objects, and innovation.”
