2014 Korea Festival:
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Each year, a particular region or country is selected for the presentation of the Korea Festival, a large-scale cultural program designed to promote Korea that can include exhibitions on Korea, live performances of music and dance, special lectures on Korean Studies, and workshops on Korean language instruction, together with social responsibility activities of Korea-related enterprises. During the first half of the year, this festival program was staged in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The Korea Festival began in early May with a special Korean Studies lecture series at leading universities in the two countries that offered in-depth information about Korea’s diplomacy, economy, society, and culture, and a workshop for Korean language instructors in Almaty, Kazakhstan, presented by instructors of the KFVN Korea Language Class. In addition, concerts of various cultural and artistic genres were presented, which received a positive response from the audiences in both countries.
On May 30, “Korean Jazz Night,” featuring female jazz vocalist Malo and guitarist Park Juwon, was staged in the Kazakh capital of Astana. On June 6, Kang Eun-il’s Haegeum Plus presented a “Remembering the Future” performance in Astana, Kazakhstan, while the “Dynamic and Elegant Korea” traditional dance and music concert by the National Gugak Center was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
In Uzbekistan, the National Gugak Center presented the essence of Korean traditional music, masterfully demonstrating the beauty of Korean culture to the local residents who packed the overflowing auditorium.
