My Dream to Become an Expert of Promoting Korea Abroad

My name is Park Sang-gyu, I am 20 years old, and I have been selected for the third session of KFGF. When I studied abroad in the U.K. as a young student, I became interested in promoting Korea and public diplomacy. During my time in the U.K., even harder than the language barrier and cultural differences was the fact that English people know so little about Korea. While I sometimes felt out of place around them, I was able to grow as a person by taking the initiative to teach them about Korea. As I got to know my new friends, while sharing my Korean snacks and teaching them how to write Hangul, the Korean alphabet, I watched them change from young students who knew nothing about Korea to adults who could relate to Korean culture. Because of my experience with promoting Korea in my daily life, I set my own goal of contributing to Korea’s public diplomacy. I am proud that the first step I took in this direction was doing volunteer work with the KFGF. Based on the experiences of the first session, I will do my best to spread awareness about the Korea Foundation and to increase opportunities for participation in public diplomacy.
