The 18th Korea-China Forum for the Future

The Korea-China Forum for the Future, which is organized by the Korea Foundation and the China People's Institute of Foreign Affairs (president: Yang Wenchang), is hosted in Korea and China in alternating years. This year, the 18th Korea-China Forum for the Future was held in Seoul on July 16. South Korean dignitaries in attendance included Park Byeong-seug, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly; Hwang Byung-tai, former ambassador to China; Han Min-koo, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Kim Jae-chang, former deputy commander of the Korea-US Combined Forces Command; and Chung Chong-wook, national security advisor to the president. On the Chinese delegation were Zhao Qizheng, former Director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, who is regarded as an ambassador for public diplomacy; Cao Weixin, member of the National People's Congress committee on agriculture and farming towns; Xu Jun, deputy director of the Economic Committee for the CPPCC; and Han Fangming, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC. At the forum, participants discussed the assessment of South Korean President Park Geun-hye's visit to China, the issue of denuclearizing North Korea, China's urbanization strategy, and the practical implementation of items agreed upon by the Chinese and Korean presidents.
