Korean Cinema Today: Films from the Busan International Film Festival in Berlin

The Korea Foundation, the Busan International Film Festival, and Germany’s House of World Cultures joined forces to present the 2013 Korea Cinema Today film festival in Berlin, which kicked off on May 2. The Korea Foundation president and the South Korean ambassador to Germany were present to give congratulatory addresses, and the opening ceremony saw an appearance by O Muel, whose film Jiseul opened the festival, and actor Yoo Ji-tae, who made his directing debut with Mai Ratima. First staged in 2011, this festival has become an international event for sharing the best of Korean culture with German audiences. The president of the Korea Foundation said he was “thrilled to see all the different Korean cultural events taking place in Germany for the 130th anniversary of Korea-Germany relations, which show just far Korea has come.” He also said he looked forward to the festival becoming a “stepping stone for ushering the Korean Wave forward in Germany.”
